Week End Finisher ....
"Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain"
As I watch TV and listen to nearly every one, especially black people and those calling themselves Christians continually use God and Jesus in their conversations no matter what they are talking about. I find this habit has gotten worse and worse over time from bad teachings from pastors. So, I want to focus just a little bit on a very bad habit even God don't like. It read in the bible like this.
"Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain" for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." Exodus 20:7 (KJV)
Another reading from Exodus 20:7 (NIV) Bible read lke this.....
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name."
New International Version (NIV)....
Somewhere down the line this piece of serious information has been over looked by billions of practicing Christians. This is what God said to not do. To not take his name in vain Yet, we find Church people doing it every day and all day long as though God was not the God of all wisdom but just a God in name. A name told about but received as a low class God that changes as time move further into the future.
People think that because we change God change along with us. They think they do not have to abide by things he once said and was against not realizing that God words will never change to suite our situation or need.
Those calling themselves Christians use the name of God with out thought. We can give him praise in a proper way and setting but not with every breath for any thing. Meaning, people use the name of God or Jesus in vain in stupid and derogatory situations.
For example, if some one or a dog act weird and ridiculous, people will say God help this silly person or dog. Knowing it want happen but love saying it out of a joke or just stupidity.
People even say Lord help him or her even though they may be readying themselves to rob a bank or get on a dance floor. Even saying "oh my God" after someone get drunk and fall to the floor.
Some one walks into a nice hotel and say "Jesus look at this place" or "God isn't this nice." What about "God sent an angle to save them", or "God knows I'm telling the truth."
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for God." Like God is thinking directed of them . Or trying to be smart. Every one should know that that God created Adam and Eve and from them come all mankind. None of us would be if it wasn't for God. So why say keep saying something that every one knows is a fact. What about, "Lord, I need another drink" while committing sexual acts.
Don't forget, "let's pray over our food", "Father God we thank you" like you care about God while preparing to do something sinful against God thinking know sooner than you finish praying but thinking God is approving of your life style as though he's just like you. Full of partying, clubbing, dancing, drinking, lying. drugging, backbiting, jealousy, a gossiper, sex addict and so on.
Another is "OMG" meaning Oh my God. Twitter and Facebook is full of people using these three letters to be hip or in with the groove. What about politicians using God's name in vain to promote their agenda.
Every one is using God's name in vain. Each thinking they are making or getting some where with God while continuing their lives without God. Meaning these people are not attempting to bring others to God because they have their own agenda that does not involve God at all.
These we called unlearned hypocrites. Those that hang around the Church, learned the very basic but moved no further. Thus, lacking what it takes to really no and understand God and his mission for them but going on their own understanding believing "nothing is wrong with this I'm doing as long as I use the name of God in my talk quite often."
So,what is God saying in scripture? He's saying Just because you use his name in your talk and conversations doesn't free you from the wrongdoing or crimes you commits against him. It does not make you a saved Christian. But it does show one has no respect for God or his word.
In vain is that we get nothing out of mentioning God's name in this manner. Inside the Church a lot of vain talking and speaking take place promising something that never will happen having to pretend it happen on smaller scales as though it did.
To use God's name is better suited for thanking God for life and blessing that he's already given and provided and providing for us on into the future. Use his name for teaching the scriptures of God. Not to be vainly exploited by unrighteous part time believers such as those on Twitter, Facebook or just any one that decide speak out his name loudly in public saying nothing but pretending to be what they want you to think they are. Blind trying to lead and win the blind.
It's hard to be re-trained from thousands of years of bad habits but we must consider and obey the Lord. This lead toward perfection so it must start now. Christ will stand up for in the end if you tried and endured the load.
Be conscious of your thoughts and how you use the name of God. Yet, give him the praise and the glory as the God over life. "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain" for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." Exodus 20:7 (KJV).
I bet your pastor haven't preached on this. You think about it!
